BOURBON enters offshore wind marketCompany News // December 6, 2011
BOURBON has announced that it recently installed an innovative offshore wind structure in the Atlantic.
Working off the coast of Portugal at Aguçadoura, BOURBON installed a semi-submersible wind turbine with a WindFloat foundation, a project led by the Portuguese utility EDP and designed by the US technology developer Principle Power.
This innovative technology enables the wind turbine to be assembled onshore with standard turbines, and then towed and anchored offshore. The operation was performed by Bourbon Liberty 228, an AHTS.
“As of June 2010, BOURBON has been operating in offshore wind with the Bourbon Enterprise” said Patrick Belenfant, Senior Vice-President Business Management, Bourbon Subsea Services.
“This IMR vessel first intervened on the Greater Gabbard offshore windfarm, one of the biggest offshore installation projects off the southeast coast of the UK, before working on the BARD Offshore 1 windfarm off Germany."
