    ABS classes flexible fallpipe vessel

    ABS has classed a flexible fall pipe vessel for Van Oord Marine Services BV. Stornes was constructed in Yantai, China and delivered in September 2011. The fallpipe concept was developed based on a bulk carrier design.

    Flexible fallpipe vessels are primarily used for underwater stone laying operations. The unit is 175 m long, 26 m wide, 14.5 m moulded depth and designed for a working depth of 300-1,200 m.

    The DPS-2 unit is equipped with two 4,000 kW main engines, two 2,200 kW shaft generators and four 1,800 kW auxiliary engines and has accommodations for about 50 personnel.
