Training company Survivex gains OPITO approvalTraining // July 7, 2011
Aberdeen-based training specialist Survivex has announced that it has secured OPITO approval for its range of survival and MIST training courses.
The accreditation follows the recent opening of Survivex’s new state of the art 53,000 square foot training centre which will provide comprehensive offshore survival training for both companies and self funding individuals.
OPITO is the Oil and Gas UK industry’s focal point for skills and knowledge. The UK/North Sea arm of OPITO delivers initiatives and activities which ensure a competent and safe workforce supply for industry in the UK and North Sea area both now and in the future.
George Green, managing director of Survivex, said: "OPITO standards are set by the industry and our accreditation shows our commitment to supporting the industry and its high standards of training.
"The facility has been custom-built and was designed with the OPITO standards in mind and we have invested significantly in ensuring that all of our equipment meets OPITO requirements.
“We have gained OPITO approval to run several courses including the Minimum Industry Standards Training (MIST) course. Survivex are one of a range of specialist suppliers who are approved to deliver this essential training.
"The MIST course ensures that anyone travelling offshore has the right training and skills to minimise hazards. In this highly competitive sector, it is essential that our customers and clients know that the training and services we provide meet the demands of the industry and having the seal of approval from OPITO is key to this.”
The new building, which recently opened on Dyce Avenue, includes two purpose-built pools equipped with helicopter underwater escape training apparatus as well as purpose built rigging frames, dedicated halls for forklift and confined space, banksman slinger and industrial skills training and a simulated helicopter deck for helicopter landing officer training.
The Survivex training centre also features conference and meeting facilities for hire. The conference suites can accommodate meetings and seminars, from four people upwards, with a capacity for up to eighty people in a cinema style setting.
