Fisherman killed in PSV collision in Brazil

    News // March 9, 2011

IHS Group magazine Safety at Sea reports that a PSV working for Petrobras and a fishing boat have collided off Brazil, killing one fisherman and injuring another, according to local authorities.

The US-flagged Fast Titan and the fishing boat collided on 6 March about 45 nautical miles off Cabo Frio near Petrobras' FPSO Cidade de Santos, the Rio de Janeiro harbourmasterís office said in a statement. The fishing boat sank after the collision, it added.

The injured crewman was rescued by Fast Titan and treated aboard Cidade de Santos before being transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Rio.

The PSV arrived in port later in the day and will remain at dock until an investigation into the incident is complete, the harbormaster said.

Fast Titan is chartered by Petrobras from Edison Chouest Offshore.
