Namegiving ceremony held for MPI AdventureVessel & ROV News // February 9, 2011
MPI Offshore has announced that the name-giving ceremony for MPI Adventure took place on 19 January at the Cosco Qidong Shipyard in China. The vessel was christened by Ms Zhang Rongrong, Vice Mayor, Qidong Municipal Government.
MPI Adventure, the first of two newbuild wind turbine installation vessels, has been constructed by Cosco in China. The 140m vessel will arrive in European waters later this spring.
Together with the MPI Resolution, currently in operation with MPI, and the second newbuilding vessel, MPI Discovery, MPI Adventure will play an important role in the delivery of renewable energy.
MPI Adventure’s first challenge will be the installation of monopile foundations for the London Array offshore windfarm. This windfarm is to be built approximately 20km off the coast of Kent and Essex in the UK and is scheduled for construction in two phases.
The first phase, due for completion in 2012, will cover 90 square kilometres and include 175 turbines, with a combined capacity of 630 megawatts.
