Latest Indian licensing round opensNews // December 30, 2010
The Indian government has opened a new licensing round inviting bids for 34 blocks of which 15 (eight deepwater, that is, over 400m, and seven shallow water) are offshore.
Four of the deepwater blocks are east of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands across the Bay of Bengal from eastern India while the remaining four deepwater blocks and all the shallow water blocks are in the Arabian Sea off western India.
The licenses call for exploration phases of eight years for deepwater blocks and 7 years for shallow water blocks. Bids close in March next year.
