Bourbon vessel attacked offshore Nigeria - crew taken hostageNews // September 23, 2010
Bourbon in France has confirmed that its vessel Bourbon Alexandre was attacked whilst in the Addax field off the Nigerian coast during the night of 21/22 September.
The vessel was subject to an assault from several speedboats. Three French crew members were kidnapped; the 13 other crew members have remained on board and nobody was injured.
Bourbon said no-one had claimed responsibility for the attack at this stage.
Bourbon Alexandre, an anchor handler, was operating under the French flag.
Bourbon said it had contacted all of the families of those involved and will keep them informed.
A Bourbon crisis unit based in Marseilles is working with a company emergency unit in Nigeria and are working to obtain the release of the men.
